Criteria to be Green

Green for Good has established the following criteria for businesses and organizations to be listed in the Product and Business Directories. We ask each who participate to adhere to this criteria. Those found and/or determined to be violating this criteria will immediately be removed from the directory.



  • Durable – Products that become more efficient in materials usage as they have a longer functional lifespan.

  • Easy to disassemble – Products designed to be easy to disassemble for repurposing, composting, and/or recycling.

  • Educational – Programs, information and services that educate people about sustainable living and show them ways to become more eco-friendly.

  • Energy or resource efficient – Products that are more efficient in their use of the Earth’s resources, including renewable energy (wind, solar, geothermal), water and materials.

  • Environmental – Products that protect our air or water by using less to operate or manufacture or a product designed to protect the quality of these resources.

  • Fair Trade – Fairly traded products that support living wages and produced with safe and healthy conditions for workers.

  • Health –Products or services that promote good health and cause minimal environmental impact by emphasizing prevention, precaution, efficacy and wellness in their daily practice and/or application.

  • Locally Produced – Products that are grown or manufactured locally.

  • Low-Impact Adventures and Travel – Eco-tourism, travel and other environmentally friendly outdoor activities

  • Low Toxicity – Products that contain less or no toxic chemicals or services that use less or no toxic ingredients.

  • Organic – Products that meet standards of the U.S. National Organic Program, or other recognized and accepted state, national or international organic certification programs.

  • Recycled – Products that contain post-consumer material or waste material from the manufacturing of other products.

  • Reduced Waste – Products that create less waste in their packaging, manufacturing, use or end life.

  • Renewable Resource – Products from renewable plant resources or from byproducts of wood-product manufacturing.

  • Reusable – Products designed for long life or a secondary use after its original use.

  • Stewardship Sourcing – Products that make use of raw materials from fairly traded sources or low-impact sources such as Forest Stewardship Council-approved forests.
